Exciting things are happening in downtown Birmingham. Last night the city commission made bistro licenses a possibility, making way for smaller establishments to serve alcohol, opening up opportunities for those who cannot invest in an $800,000 liquor license. We stayed up until after midnight last night observing the commission meeting on TV, but for the best commentary, take a look at the Birmingham Buzz.
And the other breaking news (at least to me) is that Google has signed a lease on space in the new building that is being built on the former Jacobson’s site at Old Woodward and Willits. The appearance of 40-60 professional Googler’s is a welcome addition to the city, though it seems that they are just being relocated here from the Southfield Town Center, not from Google headquarters in California. I am certain that Google will be given a very warm welcome by the citizens of Birmingham.
I don’t suspect there is any relationship between the bistro licenses and Google’s new digs, but both are welcome news.

Glad to hear the news about Google. I am pleased to hear that they are continuing to further their beach-head in SE Michigan. Hey, maybe we can turn all of SE Michigan into a Googleplex!
