Schools Matter

The perceived quality of the public schools is one of the most significant factors in property value, and a factor that motivates most buyers, even those without children. In many area cities more than one school district serves the community. In Troy, for example, residents are served by Birmingham, Avondale and Troy School Districts. An otherwise identical Troy home could have a very different value depending on which of these districts serves it.

Fair housing law prohibits Realtors from stating that any school district is better than another. But we can give you the resources to determine which district is best for you and your children.

For the last few years, Michigan was one of only two states that participated in the School Evaluation Service program run by Standard & Poors. This week S&P launched a new web site, SchoolMatters.com, that takes this effort nationwide. In our opinion, this is one of the best resources available for comparing the performance of districts and individual schools.
