Mich.: REALTOR® Recognized for Courageous Act(April 21, 2005) –

Stacy Peardon, a salesperson at Keller Williams Realty in St. Clair Shores, Mich., has been honored by two housing groups for taking action after three men threatened her for showing homes in a predominantly white community to African American clients.Peardon reported the incident to the Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit, which referred the case to the FBI. One of the men was later convicted and sentenced to one year of home confinement and one year of probation.”It really sent a message to the neighborhood that you can’t make threats against people,” says Peardon. “I couldn’t imagine being chased out of a neighborhood because of the color of my skin.”Peardon received the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Courage Award at Fair Housing Month ceremony on April 4 in Washington, D.C. She also was recognized last September with an award from the Fair Housing Center of Metropolitan Detroit.Asked whether she considers herself courageous, Peardon says: “I only did what anyone else would have done in my situation.”—By Jane Adler
