This week “No U-Turn Signs” popped up in the center of Old Woodward. Seems like a crazy waste of money to me, and its more ugly signage.
No U-Turn laws have not been enforced in downtown Birmingham for years, much to the frustration of many law abiding drivers like me. Just yesterday a Hummer attempted to make a U-turn in front of me on a narrow section of Merrill in order to snag an empty parking spot on the opposite side of the street. Of course, he couldn’t make the U-turn because of the size of his vehicle, so he made a 3 point turn and managed to hold up traffic in 2 directions so he could get that spot. Empty parking spots are the only reason I see folks making Uies.
Frankly I think a couple of days of enforcing the No U-turn laws and a few well placed articles in the Eccentric and the Eagle would have markedly improved the situation and saved some bucks on the ugly signs.
Also wondering what will happen to those signs in the winter when we get a big snowfall and they need to center of Old Woodward to pile up the snow before they haul it away? They’ll be buried and then damaged by the snow removal equipment.
Two thumbs down for the new signs!
