This year, for the first time, the entire Beverly Hills Village Commission is up for election on November 7th. All but one sitting commissioner is running for reelection. The incumbents are joined by 8 challengers.
The candidates are:
- Ron Berndt
- Rosanne Koss
- Soter Liberty
- Victor Marshall
- Patrick McCarthy
- Jon Oen
- M. Lee Peddie
- Dorothy Pfeiffer
- William Jay Reynolds
- Pam Rijnovean
- Todd Stearn
- David Taylor
- Gladys Walsh
- Hugh Woodrow
The election started of on a controversial note, when the Beverly Hills Public Safety Officers Union interviewed the candidates to make endorsements. On the one side, some felt that as employees of the Village, the officers should not be attempting to influence the outcome of the election. Others felt that the officers were protected by the First Amendment right to free speech.
Frankly, the election is representative of the Village Council for the last two years. They sitting council has been strongly divided since they took office together. There has to be a better way.
Today we came across the web site of a slate of candidates that we think would work well together for the betterment of the Village. Please visit BeverlyHills48025.com for more information about the candidates. We have never endorsed candidates here before, but as Beverly Hills property owners, we would like to see civility and reason prevail on the Council.
