Wireless Oakland Coming Slowwwwwly
Published December 22nd, 2006 in Birmingham MI Real Estate, Metro Detroit. We work in a centrally located downtown Birmingham office. The internet goes down every so often when our company takes the server down for one reason or another. But Birmingham was one of the first cities to test the Wireless Oakland project. Our question. Why doesn’t it work in an office at Woodward and Maple? We could not be any more in the heart of downtown. OK we could be about 5 storefronts closer to the epicenter, but that is it. So if it doesn’t work there, where does it work?
The Birmingham Buzz has an article from the Eccentric about how Wireless Oakland is now 10 months behind schedule. It certainly was an exciting idea when it was rolled out. I hope it does not sputter before it actually gets going.

Have you looked at the Wireless Oakland website? (www.wirelessoakland.com) In the FAQ section it states that Birmingham is not yet on the system and is expected to see service sometime after the first of the year. Remember, you’re in the PILOT areas of the rollout, and the very nature of a pilot program is that it’s in the testing and experimental phase. If you’ve been following the news stories, you’d have realized how much work has actually already been done and how much more complex it’s all been than was first anticipated.

Thanks Joe. I did not see that. It’s hard when something has been so heavily hyped. People, including me, expect that things will happen more quickly. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a very exciting project for the area.
