Merry Christmas Again!

pict0059.jpgNo, I am not confused.  My Blackberry has not misfired.  Today, January 7th, is Ukrainian Christmas and the day that Orthodox Christians celebrate.  At our home, this means that Santa is finally coming.

A few weeks ago we took Katya out to do some Ukrainian Christmas caroling with the children from her Ukrainian school.  Katya was the youngest by a few years, and not quite ready to sing along, only because she does not know the songs yet.  When we took her to a new years eve event in downtown Birmingham, she jumped at the opportunity to sign to a crowded room, and belted out a very impressive rendition of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

Fortunately, at 3 years of age, she hasn’t really had much of a concept of when Santa was coming to town, which allowed us to get through our “American Christmas” schedule of events without the big elf coming down our chimney bearing loot.

Merry Christmas!

Well I am wearing a Christmas sweater today in honor of the Ukrainian Christmas! I thought about wearing it because hey, yesterday was just Epiphany… Now I know what was going on across the street last night. Lotsa cars, I thought those Ukrainians take their Epiphany celebrations serious! At least I believe yesterday was the 12th day of Christmas and Epiphany in the calendar I go by…

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!! My Mother was Ukrainian and I remember having a doll that she brought back to me that – I could swear looked just like your daughter in the same outfit!

Hard to believe Christmas is already around the corner. I am ready for some Thanksgiving turkey though.
