Hey, this is a question for the real estate bloggers who stop by here. Have you noticed a HUGE increase in spam comments in the last two days? They are just pouring in over here.
I don’t know that much about this stuff, but I didn’t know if they have something to do with the google update or something. This site just got ranked a 5, which is pretty cool, in my humble opinion. We came on to this domain at the beginning of September. I think we were a 2 or 3 when we were on blogspot.
The only other thing that I might attribute the spam to is the sitemap we finally got working thanks to Dave of Real Estate Blog Lab. If you are struggling with wordpress, like me, you need to bookmark Dave. I don’t know if he is studying my blog looking for new topics to put out, but he seems to always have something that has been perplexing me.
Anyways, akismet is catching about 99% of the spam comments, so I am grateful.

Maureen,
Thank you. I saw a spike of attacks about a week ago. It has dropped off since. I don’t think it had anything to do with the sitemap.
Thanks for the idea, I have been reading your blog, but not looking for ideas. I’ll start reading with a new eye.
And if you ever have something you want information on just drop by the lab and post a question on any post. I’ll see what I can do to get you an answer.

Dave,
Be careful what you offer! I will definitely be leaving some questions at the blog lab. I think I might be leaving you a list of them soon.
The photo spacing thing had been bugging me, and when I stopped by to link back to your sitemap article, there was the solution!

I’ve seen more comment spam than usual in the last week or so. Some bonehead selling painkillers kept slipping through BOTH Spam Karma and Bad Behavior until I manually added him to the “black listâ€. He was relentless.
Congrats on the PR.

It is good to see you getting some benefit from the RE blog lab. This is the reason I started it in the first place. Glad I can help.

Mine went wild over Christmas for some reason but it’s been pretty quiet so far this year. Congrats on the PR upgrade Maureen.
