Wall of Spam

Here comes a post that has nothing to do with real estate or metro Detroit or Oakland County. Some times we just have to do something just for fun, right?

Today miOaklandCounty.com is about to pass a memorable milestone. Akismet, our spam comment blocking program is about to devour its 15,000 piece of comment spam. For those that care, the recent spam has changed to being focused on pharmaceuticals like Propecia, Valium, Xenical, Levitra, Hoodia, Diazapan, Phentermine and a long line of other things that I have no idea what they are. When we first started on this domain on September 2 of 2006 the spammers seemed to focus on things too pornographic for me to mention here.

So I am taking YOUR guesses at how many spam comments will attack this site in the next 30 days. We should hit 15,000 before noon today and that is our starting point. I will stop the spam counting clock on April 12th at noon EST. The winner will be announced on Friday the 13th of April, and will receive a link from this blog and our ActiveRain blog AND a can of Spam.

To enter, leave your guess in the comments of this post. All guesses must be submitted no later than March 26th at Midnight EST.

Interesting contest. My guess is 1,425 spam attacks.

jfsellsius 03.13.07 at 6:23 pm

2,535

Linda Davis 03.13.07 at 7:40 pm

Ok, I’m in. My guess is 2012.

Thanks for voting women.

Carole Cohen from Cleveland had trouble posting a comment. Her guess is 2,148.

Maureen,

I like the nitch around 1600, but since my tax accountant says if you don’t want to be audited avoid even numbers so 1671 is my guess.

Jay Thompson 03.15.07 at 8:44 pm

3,146…

If it’s the closest without going over, I’ll guess 12.

Maureen, I’m not sure how it happened, but somehow I put half the number I’d intended to when I wrote my original answer of 1,425. Is it too late to change my answer to 2,850?

Maureen Francis 03.22.07 at 8:23 pm

Leanne, you can change your vote as many times as you want until the deadline!

Hmmm There were 17,000 additional pieces of spam. I need to go check the results on ActiveRain.
