Competition Heating Up for Birmingham with Troy Development on KMart Site | miOaklandCounty.com

Two recent news items are good news for Troy and Birmingham. The regional transit center is one step closer to becoming a reality at Maple and Coolidge. The Amtrak stop will be moved from its current location in Birmingham by the Big Rock to the other side of the tracks, in Troy. And it will be substantially improved, making the train a more attractive alternative for commuters and those attending events downtown.

And…

The owners of the former Kmart headquarters at Big Beaver and Coolidge are presenting a plan to the Troy City Commission Monday night for redevelopment of the site. They plan a modern village of shops, condos and town homes. Exciting news for Troy, but it will place additional pressure on the merchants and landlords in nearby Birmingham, as well as on the condo market in both cities.
