How to Choose a Realtor

by Maureen Francis on May 30, 2007

in Buyer Information,Seller Information

I came across an article tonight that sounded like something I might have written. But since I did not write it, I will refer you over to this Realview piece.

Highlights:

  1. Does the Agent have a strong online presence?
  2. Is the agent full time?
  3. What is the agent’s marketing strategy?

There is more, so head on over and read it. Note that nowhere on there does it suggest that you should chose and agent because:

  1. He goes to your country club.
  2. She advertises in the monthly homes magazine.
  3. You saw his face on the cart at Kroger.
  4. She is your mom’s best friends daughter.

Selling or buying a home is a business decision.

End of brief soap box pontification.

Maureen, how true! #2 is critical; so many people half-time it and don’t do it well. For those who do, bravo- you must have a second job that is quite flexible. As for the others, it is irritating when a Realtor OR client has to wait 24, 48 or a million hours for a return call because the listing agent is “busy at their other job.”

You’ve summarized the list brilliantly!

I can’t seem to leave it alone —-

How well does your agent understand the local real estate market and trends?

Maureen Francis 05.31.07 at 2:05 am

ARW, I don’t know how anyone could have time for another job if they sell real estate. I spend about 90 hours a week on this, so I have no time to do anything else!

John, I liked your latest on the subject

Intersting list. I made a similar list coming from a lenders perspective. I didn’t realize I touched on some of these these!

Thanks
Shailesh

I think if I had to choose a Realtor I would look for one who has a virtual bus bench, at least one blog and a wiki.

Maureen Francis 06.09.07 at 7:23 am

T, I think that people would become homebound if the agent had to have a wiki and a virtual bus bench, unless then lived in St. Paul of course.

Now that I have 3 blogs, I guess it is time for me to get my wiki.

Shailesh, I will check out your list for lenders!
