Beate Knappe Houses

Unfortunately, I am not a Birmingham MI home buyer, or a Troy MI buyer, or a Royal Oak MI buyer. I see some wonderful opportunities for investors and buyers nearly every day, and I would certainly love to help people take advantage of them.

For those of you who are looking for a home in Metro Detroit right now, many think you have an easy job. Afterall, the market is flush with lovely properties for you to consider. Some sellers are chasing buyers down in hopes of an offer. Yet the task of finding a home is in some ways more challenging than it was a few years ago when we had fewer homes on the market.

First, you will likely look at more homes simply because more are available. This not only prolongs the process, but it adds to a complete sense of information overload. Human nature makes you want to see “everything” that is available so that you know you did not miss something better than the 50 homes you have already viewed. You also are likely to find one fatal flaw (or more) in every home you see. The sheer number of available homes takes away any sense of urgency and leaves you feeling that the perfect house is still out there.

Most likely, the “perfect” house is not out there. There will be something about any home you chose that is not exactly the way you want it, unless you have it built yourself. Even then, you will make choices that you don’t care for once you see them executed by the builder.

Today most of the sympathy is going toward the sellers, who are enduring this buyer’s market. But navigating the market poses significant challenges for buyers too.
